Whenever I get connected to the internet, the homepage of my ISP pops up. Today, I saw the images of Chetan Bhagat and Vidya Balan from the Mumbai launch function of his new book ‘2 States:The story of my marriage.’ Though, I found it a little strange and just couldn’t figure out the connection between Bhagat and Balan or Balan and the book. Then I just brushed of all these ideas realizing that neither am I from a film magazine nor do I belong to those TV news channels(read cheap gossip and entertainment).

2 states:The story of my marriage
With the phenomenal success of his previous 3 books under his belt, Bhagat’s new book is about an inter-caste love marriage. At Delhi, the book was launched by Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor. Mr. Tharoor, on the occason had said that he was a political icon whereas Bhagat is the country’s youth icon. However, we all know that Mr. Tharoor himself is quite connected with the youth of the country via twitter. Recently in the news due to his “cattle class” tweet, Tharoor has now become the only minister to comment on Kabul attacks. On his visit to UAE, he tweeted “India will not be intimidated by these criminal killers.”
Talking of twitter brought my attention to the piece of news about Bharti-Airtel joining hands to facilitate tweets via SMS in India for Airtel customers. Now, Airtel users can receive twitter updates on their mobiles for free. They just need to start the service by sending “START” to 53000. updating their own status would still cost them though.
India has shown a tremendous rise in the number of twitter users in a very short span of time. Furthermore, with such a big name as Bharti-Airtel introducing the tweetSMS feature, twitter is bound to see a phenomenal growth. The twitter co-founder, Biz Stone said that,
“There are over one billion people with internet access on the planet but there are more than four billion people with mobile phones and Twitter can work on all of them because even the simplest of these devices feature SMS”
