Google Offers Free Wi-Fi Internet and Videoconferencing

Google has always taken initiatives and created benchmarks. And the most recent one being the provision of free wi-fi internet access at 47 airports. Google has started this promotion, in cooperation with Boingo Wireless, Advanced Wireless Group, and Airport Marketing Income. It can well be considered a decent marketing strategy empowering a brand; expensive but effective.

Its also got a noble cause associated with it. There are a few participating non-profit organizations and you could make donations for a noble cause. These donations can be made with the Google Checkout. The link can be found when connected. The airport that collects the highest amount per passenger gets to donate $15,000 to any local charity.

Google is also sponsoring internet access on Virgin America flights during holidays. Also, trying to keep up, Yahoo too, is offering wi-fi internet access at Times Square, London.

I have always wondered, why cant big firms take up charity as an alternative advertising method.  I mean they do need publicity and spend lots of money for that.  An act of charity can do some good to the society and the world, whilst bringing them attention from the media and the public as well.

In another news, Google is set to extend its voice and video chat capabilties from one-to-one to one-to-many. Google acquired Web and video conferencing software in 2007 from Swedish company Marratech. But this feature wont be functional brfore the next 6-12 months. We shall wait for it though, because most of the Google features and apps have always been very popular till date and hope they continue to be soo in the future.
